OUR MISSION.

Shi Dong, hailing from Beijing, China, draws inspiration from the rich heritage of traditional Eastern Asian arts and philosophy. Her academic journey commenced with the study of philosophy at Capital Normal University in Beijing. Later, she pursued her passion for art, obtaining a Master of Arts in Art Education and a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her academic pursuits culminated in a Ph.D. from RMIT University in Australia, specializing in the field of art.

Dong's art primarily revolves around poetic nature painting and psychology-inspired design elements. Her creations delve into traditional Eastern Asian concepts like Literati art, Shanshui, Zen art, Emptiness, Oneness, and Dualism, interpreting them through a contemporary millennial perspective. Beyond her identity as Shi Dong, she also embodies the persona of Ciel, a daring character through whom she openly communicates with her audience. Shi and Ciel complement each other like the two sides of a moon, offering her a balanced perspective as a human being.

Currently, Shi serves as both an artist and a post-doctoral researcher in a curatorial capacity. She is actively involved in the "Past Wrongs, Future Choices" project at the University of Victoria in Canada. Through her art and research, she continues to explore the profound connections between Eastern traditions and contemporary abstraction, inviting viewers into a world where nature, poetry, and philosophy converge.
